drawing table
Thar's me trusty olde drawing tableau.
Its latest wound is the big square cut out of it. I sliced a hole in it to make a rotoscoping table, but it didn't work (shoulda tested it first!), so I patched the cut-out piece back in. This table is a survivor!

gag me with a movie
I am watching a terrible movie and it is called Star Trek.
Top five terrible things about this movie:
You know what, I'm not even going to get into it. I feel kind of alone when I hear so many people say a movie is amazing, then I watch it and there is not a single redeeming feature in the film. This is a really really terrible movie, in absolutely every respect. From writing to directing to dialogue, acting, shot selection, it looks like it was made by a bunch of students with too much money.
There are some really horrible movies being created nowadays. Indiana Jones IV, Quantum of Solace, and those Star Wars sequels come to mind. I don't watch a lot of Hollywood movies, but the vast majority them are bad enoguh to concern me about the state of the human race. We direct more money than ever before in history to create entertainent, and this is what we create? And hundreds of millions of dollars more are spent by audiences who flock to watch this? Sometimes more than once? And I'm sure the sequel(s) will be wildly popular as well.
I pray to the gods that children these days still read books.

the mall
Two other animators and myself spent 3-4 hours at a mall on Saturday, taking a tonne of photos for pixilation (stop-motion), and drawing. This is from the food court.
We made a bunch of superquick animation from the footage today. 30 minutes per person per piece of footage, then you had to pass it on for the next person to add to it. Very fun and freeing doing stuff in such a short amount of time. I may post a bit of that footage tomorrow, when I'm less burnt out.

multiple octopull
See that '127' in the corner of this drawing? That's the frame number of this classically animated / rotoscoped bit. I'm drawing every second frame. So thats like 64 drawings I've done of this lady so far. Fortunately I've reached a point where the camera is no longer moving, so I can use cheats and shortcuts to do the next 150 frames.

securibot
I've had this story in my head for years now, and part of it involves a bunch of giant security robots that can sit still and be pretty much immovable and indestructable. I'm trying to design a way that they can sit solid and compact, but open up into more mobile robots. I'm not sure if this is going to turn into a graphic novel or an animation or what, but it's been stewing long enough and I think it's time I spent more time on it to see if I can make the story work.

see if this works
This is a teeny weenie quicktime, but it's still big fer the innernet. I'm no good at this innernet-sized stuff. Maybe this will take too long for people to load. Very small, cropped section of this shot.

Good times
Quickie sketches and blocked in model for the same project. This character is seen from the rear, and only in one shot. I want to make him look like a hand-drawn painting on watercolour - it should blend right into the painting seamlessly. I can see it in my head, not sure how I'm going to do it yet. We'll find out tomorra!

painted
Here's the painted Devil's Club. It's supposed to look like sunlight is shining through the leaves. I'm not sure how it's going to match with the lighting in the background painting. I may have to adjust the colour in photoshop a bit to make it match.
Now settling down for a long night of photoshop..
