Another drawing from a meeting, this time at a coffeeshop. I can pay attention while drawing, in fact I think I listen better, so it's not rude, even though it may look rude.
I think the sketchbook posts were looking a little boring, so I'm trying to spice 'em up with a little colour now.

monday morning mourning
Meetings are a great place to draw. Sit a little further back than everyone else. Don't draw the people who talk a lot, because they generally scan the other people in the meeting. You don't want to make eye contact with someone you're drawing, or they'll know what you're up to.

Sun Day
Today was a good day, because today I:
- Biked
- Trespassed
- Climbed
- Smashed metal things together and recorded the sounds
- Drew
If I jumped in the ocean, it would have been an A+ day. But I'll still give it an A.

I think I actually did draw every day since Wednesday, but I don't feel like scanning stuff from every day. These are doodles from last night.

Yesterday
This is yesterday's drawing. Doodled a few people while passing the time at Granville Island before teaching class. Tonight and tomorrow are hang-out-with-friends-days, so definitely no posting, but I might have some catch-up posts on Saturday.

tuna casserole
I didn't post anything yesterday because I didn't draw anything. Naughty naughty. It was a hectic, stressful day. Was it stressful because I didn't draw, or was I just not drawing because other things were more important? These are deep philosophical questions that only birds and dogs know the answer to.
I did draw some stuff today, will post it later

Selfportrait with Straightjacket
This is all's I drew today, aside from a page of storyboards which are useful to me but incomprehensible to anyone else. I drew the glasses-guy's face nice and quick, then thought about how this would be the thing I'd post today, and tightened up (started caring too much and taking my time) on everything else. It definitely shows. Amazing how drawings look like crap when they don't come from an open place. This is about 5-10 minutes of sketching.

pencil bits
When I'm drawing in a place where people are moving too fast to capture, or when I'm watching TV / movies, I draw conglomerate people - draw the pose of the first person, use the next person's nose, next person's eyes, etc. Believe it or not, this page was drawn while watching Ferris Bueler's Day Off.

Another day, another island
I went to an island today, and, guess WHAT? They have coffee shops here, JUST LIKE the coffee shops at home! I like this island.

rock the morning into the afternoon
Starting to realize what a huge part of my life drawing is. I seem to have daily material to post, even when I'm not thinking about it.
Hooo Lordy!
Who's the crazy sumbitch who's up at 4:00 am finishing this shot? It ain't the tooth fairy! This bad boy is actually animated - fades up from black - this is about 2/3rds of the way through the shot, movin' towards fully lit. Gooooood NIGHT!
I -did watch a few episodes of 30 Rock, at least...
Still not done, but it's getting there. Should have had this drawing, and another one, finished today if I want to stay on schedule. I guess this was officially my day off, then.

Squeezin' in it at 2:13 am
Roughed-in image created in 3D software for my short film. I printed it out and traced it on a light table, then made a watercolour painting out of it. It's late and the paint's not dry and I still need to add ink to it, so I'll have to show the final image tomorrow.

Art Fart
I didn't get any sketching in today, but I -did- paint this texture for one of the shots in my film. Darkened some bits in Photoshop to simulate lighting.

Good times
These guys are either in the hot sun, in a dark cave, or in the dim sulphurous mists of a rocky planet somewhere.

Smoke
Sometimes the drawings ain't gonna be pretty. These are thoughts on smoke for my short film. Lots of smoke at the end of the film, it's going to be a lot of work unless I plan it well and start thinking about it now.

Welcome to my face
Most of my recent drawings are quick sketches in my animation notebook. There's a mirror in my studio, so I often draw my face or my hands while waiting for stuff to render.

You Are In My Head
I've been looking at some animation / illustration blogs lately, and they've been inspiring me enough that I want to start my own.
There's a couple things I want to do on this blog:
1) Post an image or movie clip that I've created every day. Hopefully it'll be an image I created that day.
2) Create a record of what I'm working on. Lately it's been a lot of animation, but I love drawing and painting, so I hope that you (and I) will see the blog shift more towards drawings and paintings.
3) Give myself a quick-fix creative outlet. Animating takes a while! I still have at least 3 months before I get to see my next short film, "Perfect Detonator", as a finished product. Giving myself a daily drawing task will hopefully force me to Draw.
Here's a doodle from my animation sketchbook (where I write frame numbers, etc). Complete with coffee stains and brain spew!
